About Agadir

Agadir is Morocco's premier resort city — a modern, planned beach destination rebuilt after the devastating 1960 earthquake, with 10km of golden Atlantic sand, year-round sunshine (330+ days), and the most family-friendly infrastructure in the country. Unlike Morocco's imperial cities, Agadir prioritises comfort and beach access over historic character.

The hotel strip along the beach (Secteur Touristique) is lined with 4-star and 5-star resorts offering thalasso spas, multiple pools, all-inclusive packages, and watersports directly on the beach. Sofitel, Royal Atlas, Tikida Golf Palace, and Riu Palace are among the flagship names. For families, the Oasiria water park and abundant beach activities make Agadir an easy choice.

Agadir hosts Adrar Stadium (45,000 capacity) for the FIFA World Cup 2030 — Morocco's southernmost venue, making it the go-to host city for fans arriving from West Africa and the Americas. Day trips from Agadir include Taroudant (1.5hrs — the "little Marrakech"), argan oil cooperatives, Souss-Massa National Park (flamingos), and the Anti-Atlas mountains.

Agadir Beach & Resort Guide

Swimming

Agadir Beach

The 10km crescent beach has lifeguards, sunlounger rentals, and is safe for swimming. The northern end (near the hotels) is calmer; the southern end is more exposed to Atlantic waves and popular with surfers.

Wellness

Thalasso Spas

Agadir's resorts are renowned for thalassotherapy — seawater-based treatments using the rich Atlantic mineral waters. Sofitel Royal Bay, Tikida Golf Palace, and Sofitel Agadir Thalassa all have world-class centres.

Shopping

Souk El Had

Morocco's largest covered market (entrance near Av. Mohammed V) — thousands of stalls selling spices, argan products, leather, textiles, and local food. Best visited in the morning. Bargaining is expected.

Family

Oasiria Water Park

Morocco's largest water park — great for families with children aged 4+. Multiple pools, slides, and a wave pool. Located 5km from the beach strip; taxi ride ~25 MAD.

Culture

Argan Oil Cooperatives

Agadir is in the heart of argan country — the only place on earth where argan trees grow. Visit a women's cooperative 10km outside the city to see traditional oil-pressing and buy genuine argan products.

Day Trip

Taroudant Day Trip

The "little Marrakech" is 1.5hrs from Agadir — a beautifully preserved medina with intact ramparts, great souk, and almost no tourists. Perfect if you want medina character without Marrakech crowds.
